Virginia M. "Ginny" (Turner) Lombard Phd., a 30 year Charlestown resident and formerly of Nahant and Winthrop, died on Wednesday. August 20, 2008, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 60 years old.
Ginny was born in Boston, she grew up in Winthrop where she attended St. John's School and went on to graduate from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Brighton in 1965. She later graduated from The College of The Sacred Heart in Newton in 1969. She later recieved her MBA from Boston University and her Masters Degree in Political Science from UMass in Boston. She then later recieved her Phd. in Political Science from Boston College. Ginny was a faculty member of Charlestown High School and former faculty member of The Jeremiah E. Burke High School and Boston Latin School in Boston. Ill health forced Ginny to retire in December of 2007 from teaching. For many years Ginny was a season ticket holder for all Boston College football games.
Ginny is the beloved wife of Matthew J. Lombard. She is the devoted step-mother of Matthew Lombard Jr. and Kristen Taylor. She is the loving sister of Robert Turner and his wife Jane of Winchester and Edwin J. Turner of the Phillipines. She is the beloved aunt of Douglas D. Turner, Caroline E. Turner, Patrick J. Turner, Matthew Delaney and William Turner.
Ginny's Funeral will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Friday, August 22, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.
