John C. Buckley, 83 years of Brockton, died Saturday August 16, 2008 at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband for 58 years of Ruth I. (Barron) Buckley. He had been a lifelong resident of Brockton, son of the late Thomas B. and Madeline (McGlincy) Buckley. He was a 1943 graduate of Brockton High School where he played hockey, later becoming a Brockton High School Hockey Booster. He was also a graduate of Burdett College of Business. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Navy as a Pharmacist Mate. He fought in Okinawa and the invasion of Saipan and Tinian. In 1986 he retired from the Brockton Housing Authority and pursued his lifelong love of boating with family and friends, summering for many years on his boat on Onset Bay. He was a longtime member of the Bertocci Memorial Club where he was a past Manager and Treasurer. He was also a member of VFW Post #1046, US Navy Historical League, the Elks in Wareham and the Point Independence Yacht Club in Onset.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons Thomas M. Buckley of Hull and John C. Buckley, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Cohasset; two daughters Rosemary Peterson and her husband Skip of Belmont and Kathryn Deasy and her husband Robert of North Falmouth; eight grandchildren, John Peterson and his wife Connacht, Kathryn Peterson, Colleen, Robert, Jr. and Michaela Deasy, and Joe, Benjamin and Mitchell Buckley; a sister Madeline A. Williams of Needham and a niece and nephew.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 10am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 11am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-8pm.
