Obituary

Arthur Sylvia, 78, of New Bedford died Friday August 15, 2008 at Caritas Norwood Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Eva (Aires) Sylvia.

Born in Acushnet, the son of the late Domingos and Palmyra (Rezendes) Silva, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.

He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Mr. Sylvia was formerly employed as a driver/salesman for Davenport Distributors. He was fondly known to his many customers as "Charlie Chip" and "Mr. 7-Up."

He was a member of Moose Golden Agers Club and the Freetown Memorial Post 6643 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul A. Sylvia and his wife Susan of Acushnet, and Peter M. Sylvia of Dartmouth; a sister, Lena Shader of Arizona; and a granddaughter, Holly Sylvia.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM at Grace Episcopal Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
