George M. Saba, 49, of Fairhaven died Saturday August 16, 2008 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Jane Murray.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George J. and Mary (Constantine) Saba, he lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven 15 years ago.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church.
George was employed as a firefighter for the New Bedford Fire Department.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School. He played semi-pro football for the Taunton Raiders in the Eastern Football League. He loved the beach, the New England Patriots, older cars, and his 1959 Harley Davidson. He enjoyed cooking.
He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife; two children, Abby Saba and Ian "The Boy" Correia, both of Fairhaven; a sister, Annemarie Espindola and her husband Steven of New Bedford; four brothers, Mark D. Saba and his wife Patti of Alpharetta, GA, Steven J. Saba and his wife Debbie of East Freetown, Peter C. Saba of New Bedford, and Michael J. Saba and his wife Lisa of Norton; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
His Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at Our Lady of Purgatory Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
