Obituary

Gaetano J. “Ted” LoPreste, of Newburyport, formerly of West Medford, age 77, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008. He was the husband of Rita C. (Messina) LoPreste, with whom he shared 44 years of Marriage.

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Libby (Andolina) LoPreste. Raised and educated in Cambridge. Ted worked as a mason at Harvard University for 14 years and then at the South Postal Annex in South Boston for 32 years. He served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Bordelon during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

He had a love for nature, art, music and politics. He traveled extensively and had a passion for cooking.

Ted was a devoted and loving husband and father and took pride in his children’s lives and accomplishments.

In addition to his wife, Ted is survived by his three children, Diane LoPreste of Newburyport, Michael and his wife Pam LoPreste of Amesbury and Theo LoPreste of Medford. In addition he leaves several nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Mary Madden, Josephine Katz, Paul and Frank LoPreste.

Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Thursday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. As an expression of sympathy memorial contributions may be sent in Gaetano’s name to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.
