Ruth M. Higson,92, died peacefully Monday, August 11, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. James W. Higson and the late Gilbert F. Hall.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Hermann and Jessie (Furness) Doll. She had been a resident of North Smithfield for the past years, previously living in Wakefield for many years.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Higson was a dedicated teacher in Scituate for twenty-five years. She was a member of the Queen Esther Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Pawtucket. Mrs. Higson was also a member of the Church of the Ascension in Wakefield. She was a frequent visitor to the local libraries, listening to many books a week. Until recently, she enjoyed traveling around the country.
Mrs. Higson is survived by two daughters Rachel A. Hendrickson and her husband Steven of Leesburg, VA, Nancy M. Allen of Warwick; two stepdaughters, Joanne H. Coombs of Wrentham, MA, Jean C. McClelland of Woonsocket, seven grandchildren, including Rachel-Ann Smith and her husband Richard of North Smithfield, with whom she made her home, Marian Grenier of Richmond, VA, Ethan Allen of Dallas, TX, and James Allen, and one great-grandson, Taylor Smith. She is also survived by her longtime companion Colonel Howard F. Brown of East Greenwich. She was the sister of the late Joseph, John and Raymond Doll. She was the grandmother of the late Jessica Allen and Amanda Stimmel.
Funeral Thursday at 10:30 am from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Funeral service including eucharist at 11am in Trinity Episcopal Church, 251 Danielson Pike, North Scituate. Visitation Thursday 9:30 -10:30am. Private burial in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery.
