PHOEBE BELLPhoebe Bell, a lifelong Newton resident, who was a secretary for the Newton Public Schools for 51 years, died Sunday March 23, 2003 at The Stone Institute in Newton Upper Falls. She was 94.Miss Bell attended Newton public schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1926. In April 1927 she began her career with the Newton school department first in the high school and then at the vocational school where she stayed until 1959. From 1959 until her retirement in 1977 she was the secretary to the superintendent of schools for the City of Newton. Miss Bell was also an active longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner.Daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Spear) Bell, she is survived by her sisters Martha J. Bell and Elizabeth S. Bell both of Needham, and her niece Roberta L. Bell of Medway. She was the sister of the late William J. and Robert S. Bell.A memorial service will be held on Sat. Mar. 29 at 11 AM in Grace Episcopal Church 76 Eldredge St. Newton Corner.
