DOUGLAS - Steven C. Carbee, 60, of 42 South St., passed away peacefully Thursday, August 7, surrounded by those who loved him and whom he loved. He had battled with lung and brain cancer courageously and with incredible determination for 6 years.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, partner and best friend, Patricia E. (Zachara) Carbee, with whom he shared the last 29 years; by his loving sons, Michael A. Carbee and his wife Temple and Daniel N. Carbee and his wife Jenn. He will be forever missed by his precious grandchildren Fionah C. Carbee and Christopher J. Carbee, children of Mike and Temple Carbee. He will be missed by his loving sister-in-law Bobbie Carbee and his brother-in-law Richard S. Zachara; by his uncle and close friend “Pete” Eastman; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Althea Ione (Eastman) Thomas, by his father Glendon N. Carbee and his wife Concita S. (Stone) Carbee, and by his brother John Nelson Carbee who died in 2004.
He was born and raised in Claremont, NH, son of Glendon N. and Althea Ione (Eastman) Carbee. He graduated from Claremont High School. He lived in Webster before moving to Douglas in 1979.
He served his country proudly and was a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam conflict.
Mr. Carbee worked in the steel industry for over 35 years. He was the director of the prep department at Ken-Weld Inc. in Worcester before his illness forced him to retire in 2003. The Ken-Weld family continued to provide a constant support of strength during his long illness.
Steven and his wife enjoyed traveling together and were especially fond of the Caribbean. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan and was overjoyed to experience both teams’ championship success.
The moments that made him smile were those spent with his grandchildren and his sons, of whom he was infinitely proud. Those who were fortunate enough to know Steve quickly realized that he was a man that was fiercely loyal, a hard-working perfectionist at whatever he attempted. He was kind to a fault. His relationship with God brought him through many trying times over the last six years.
Special mention should be made to Karin Sadowski of the VNA Care Network who unfailingly provided exceptional clinical care, advice and a caring heart.
