Obituary

Thomas Clark Weaver, 89, of Marion passed away on Saturday March 22, 2003 at Sippican Healthcare Center after a long illness. Mr. Weaver died peacefully with his wife at his side. He was the beloved husband of Elinor Terzian Weaver.

Born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Ralph H. and Margaret (Tinley) Weaver, he lived in the Mattapoisett and Marion area for 60 years.

Mr. Weaver came to this area in 1942 to join the Acushnet Company as a design engineer and was elected vice-president, director, and manufacturing manager of the rubber division in May 1956. In 1971 he was appointed as an executive vice-president of the Acushnet Company, and general manager of the rubber division. Prior to coming to New Bedford, Mr. Weaver held various engineering and management positions with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Sinclair Collins Valve Company, both of Akron, Ohio. He was a former director of the Acushnet Foundation and the United Fund of Greater New Bedford.

He was a 1937 graduate of the University of Akron, BSME, and in 1953 completed and Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

During retirement, Mr. Weaver and his wife enjoyed traveling the United States in his motor-home and spending time at their residence in Florida.

He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Marion. He was a former member of the Wamsutta Club, the Country Club of New Bedford, and the Lake Wales Country Club of Florida. He also belonged to the Abraham H. Howland, Jr. Lodge A.F. & A.M.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janis M. Foster of New Castle, New Hampshire, a son, John T. Weaver and his wife Karen of Haymarket, Virginia, a daughter, Leslye Ribeiro and her husband Carl of Marion, a daughter, Donna DeBalsi and her husband Robert of Fairhaven; a son-in-law, Daniel T. Sullivan of Hickory, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.

He was also the father of the late Barbara Weaver Sullivan, and the brother of the late Ralph H. Weaver, Jr.

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday March 29, 2003 at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church of Marion. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours are omitted.
