
Hippolit Piatkowski,, a 51 year resident of Stoughton, formerly of Boston and Jamaica Plain, passed away on Saturday August 2, 2008 after a long eventful life due to complications from a stroke at The Copley At Stoughton. He was 86 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Frances ( Williams ) Piatkowski who passed away in 2004 and to whom he married in 1952 and at that time was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy working as a nurse.
He was born on November 5, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts and was a loving son to the late Wladyslaw and Valeria ( Holochwost ) Piatkowski, immigrants from Poland and Lithuania.
He attended Boston Public Schools and later had to quit school as a young boy to help support his family due to the passing of his father.
After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined The United States Army and spent four years in the Pacific with The 37th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop seeing combat in Guadalcanal, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and the Phillippines. He retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the proud recipient of two Bronze Star Medals for valor and two Purple Hearts.
After returning home from the war, Mr. Paitkowski joined the Boston Police Department and later retired in 1981 with the rank of Lieutenant after 35 dedicated years of service.
A firm believer in education and fitness, he was a voracious reader and enjoyed lifting weights until his illness prevented him from doing so. His other hobbies included gardening and working on his computer.
He is survived by his children, Paul Piatkowski of York, Pennsylvania, David Piatkowski and Gail Piatkowski both of Stoughton, his grandson Mark Piatkowski ( Currently serving his country with the United States Army ) and several nieces and nephews.
His graveside funeral service will be held on Monday August 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in Evergreen Cemetery, Washington Street, ( Off Rt. 138 ), Stoughton. The Rev.
