Daniel V. Smith, age 52, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - N MS in Oxford, MS. Born December 15, 1955 in Calhoun County, MS, he was a son of Thomas Melvin and Clara Pauline Akins Smith. Daniel was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He worked in maintenance for 33 years at Borg-Warner in Water Valley, MS and was a member of the Concord Baptist Church in Calhoun County, MS.
Visitation will be Friday, August 8, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2008 in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 1:30 pm until service time at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Smith presiding. The committal will be held in Concord Cemetery in Calhoun County, MS with Cliff Gardiner, Johnny Camp, Mike Glick, Sammy Anthony, Lynn Walker, and Jammie Hickman serving as pallbearers.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Brenda K. Smith of Water Valley, MS; a daughter, Stacey Lynn Montgomery with husband Tommy of Pontotoc, MS; a son, Daniel Scott Smith with wife Karen of Tupelo, MS; a step-daughter, Stephanie Machelle McNeese with husband Scott of Olive Branch, MS; a step-son Garry Walter Dickey with wife Amber of Memphis, TN; a sister, Sandy Smith Wright with daughter SaDeana of Vardaman, MS; a brother, Tommy Lee Smith with wife Lynda of Pittsboro, MS; father, Thomas Melvin Smith of Serepta, MS; nine grandchildren; and an uncle, Rick Akins of Flippin, AR.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Pauline Akins Smith.
