Harold E. Bonney, 88

Harold E. “Nick” Bonney, 88, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died peacefully on Wednesday August 6, 2008 surrounded by his adoring family and friends at the Epoch Senior Health Center in Norton. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene M. (Richards) Bonney who passed away on March 27, 1997. Mr. and Mrs. Bonney were married on January 23, 1941.
Born in Mansfield, MA on June 8, 1920 he was a son of the late Joseph and Margorie (Ells) Bonney.
Educated in Mansfield schools he proudly served his country during WWII serving in the United States Army. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged on October 29, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant.
Mr. Bonney was a retired Custodian for the Mansfield Public School System. He worked at the Robinson Elementary School for 10 years where he was a popular figure with the students and teachers. He had formerly been employed for 30 years as a truck driver for Hicks Trucking in Foxboro.
Nick was quite instrumental in raising funds for social activities at Bicentennial Court in Mansfield and since living at the Epoch Senior Care Center he was affectionately known as the “Mayor of Epoch”. At Epoch he kept busy in the activities program and was the morning announcer for the resident’s daily activities.
Nick’s hobbies included woodworking, gardening and playing cards. He received the simplest pleasures in life when in the company of his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted children Joyce A. Casavant and her husband Paul of Rehoboth, Steven H. Bonney of Brea, California, Ronald J. Maxwell and his wife Barbara of Fullerton, California, Ralph R. Maxwell of Mansfield, Elaine A. Maxwell of Los Angeles, California, Susan M. Colson and her husband Walton of Easton and Dan R. Maxwell and his wife Nancy of Port St. Lucie, Florida, his dear sister Gertrude Majors of Port Charlotte, Florida and his cherished 6 grandchildren, 6 great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held on Thursday August 14th at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours are omitted.
In lieu of flowers Nick’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Activities Fund at the Epoch Senior Care Center 184 Mansfield Ave. Norton, MA 02766.
