Mr. Joseph R. DeRosa, age 74, of Burlington died suddenly, Monday, August 4th, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington. He was the beloved husband of 47 years to Maria F. (Sartori). Born in East Boston he was the son of the late Joseph and Celia (Perella) DeRosa.
Mr. DeRosa was a retired Valuation Engineer. He worked for 35 years as a public servant and was the former Director of Valuation with the IRS New England Branch. Mr. DeRosa was born in East Boston and raised educated in Revere where he graduated from Revere High School in 1951 and was the class Salutatorian. Following high School Mr. DeRosa went on to graduate from Northeastern University with a degree in civil engineering. Mr. DeRosa also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. After his retirement from the IRS, Mr. DeRosa continued working for several years with Ernst & Young Co. of Boston and also worked as a self employed Valuation Engineer.
Mr. DeRosa was extremely devoted to his loving family and was very proud of the many accomplishments of his children. He was an avid golfer and loved sports.
In addition to his late parents Mr. DeRosa is predeceased by his brother, the late Ronald DeRosa. He is survived by his beloved wife Maria and their children, Lauren Linton and her husband John of Lincoln, Joseph DeRosa Jr. and Narcisa (Neial) of Boston and Jeffrey DeRosa of Burlington. He was the loving grandfather of Aidan Linton and Nicholas King. Brother of Francesca Blagdon and her husband Richard of North Hills, CA. Uncle of Cheryl and Cody Thomas, Richard and Lynn Blagdon, Jennifer, Melissa and Ronald DeRosa Jr. Great uncle of Taylor and Ashley Blagdon, Dylan and Kyle Thomas. Also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Friday, at 9 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will conclude with interment at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cabrini Chapel, 701 Ft. Washington St., New York, NY 10040 or to the Salvation Army 147 Berkley St. Boston, MA 02118.
