Valentin Georgino Martinez, Jr., 58, of Tifton died Monday, August 4, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. Dr. R. E. Rogers, Dr. Ed Husband, Rev. T. Manuel Johnson and Rev. Ricardo will officiate with burial to follow on Friday, August 8, 2008, in Monte Cristo Cemetery in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Edgar Diaz, Louis Alvarez, Rev. Mustache, Rev. Carlos, Gerrin Martinez and Getzal Martinez. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 6, 2008, from 12:00 noon until the hour of the service at the First Church of the Nazarene in Tifton.
Mr. Martinez was born on June 9, 1950 in Isabela, Puerto Rico and was the son of Georgino Martinez (Corchado), Sr. and Virginia Valentin Martinez, both deceased. He was a minister and the Hispanic coordinator for the Georgia District Church of the Nazarene and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Tifton. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam and had lived in Tifton for the past eight years.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife, Diana Liciaga Martinez of Tifton; three sons, Gerrin Martinez of Orlando, Florida, Alex Martinez of Puerto Rico and Getzal Martinez of Gainesville; one sister, Marianita Martinez of Isabela, Puerto Rico; and seven grandchildren.
