TEWKSBURY - Stella M. (Briscoe) Houlihan, age 86, a former Tewksbury Post Office Clerk, died peacefully Sunday afternoon, August 3, at Blairehouse of Tewksbury, after a long period of declining health. She was the wife of the late William J. Houlihan, the former Postmaster of Tewksbury, who died in 1983.
She was born in Forge Village, Westford, on March 12, 1922, a daughter of the late Luka and Barbara (Walkivitch) Briscoe. She was raised in Forge Village and graduated from Westford Academy with the Class of 1939. She would later graduate from the former Bradshaw Business School in Lowell.
She had lived in Tewksbury since 1946.
She was a career employee at the Tewksbury Post Office, as a "window clerk," before she retired in 1972 to raise her family. Mrs. Houlihan was known to most residents in Tewksbury on a first name basis, as the face of the U.S. Postal Service in her then tiny community.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul W. Houlihan and his wife Lori (McCracken) of St. Petersburg, FL, Brian G. Houlihan and his wife Rhonda (Abraham) of Peabody; two grandchildren, Myles W. Houlihan of FL, and Erin M. Houlihan of Peabody; a sister, Luba (Briscoe) McGee of Statin Island, NY; and many dear friends throughout the Merrimack Valley.

Her Funeral Service was held Wednesday, August 13, Noon in the funeral home. Burial at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 will be appreciated.
