Obituary

Margarida (Andrade) Macedo, 80, of New Bedford died Saturday August 2, 2008 at home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Joaquim Macedo.

Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Arminda (Oliveira) Andrade, she lived in New Bedford since 1966.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas of Florida, Edmundo and Manuel, both of New Bedford, and Antonio of Wareham; four daughters Erlice Rodriguez of Brazil, Iris Ribeiro of Hawaii, Helia Macedo-Fields of Marion,and Helena Morton of Florida; two brothers, Alcides Andrade of New Bedford and Jose Andrade of Brazil; three sisters, Bella Valles of Florida, Cizela Goncalves and Beatriz Castro, both of New Bedford; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Nilo Macedo and Heloisa Castro, and sister of the late Joao deDeus Andrade, Joao deJesus Andrade, Irisalva Rodrigues, and Maria Barbosa.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
