Obituary

William J. Dillon, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died unexpectedly on Saturday August 2, 2008 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after suffering a stroke on Wednesday morning. He was 71 years old.

Billy was born in Boston on April 20, 1937. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Commerce High School in Boston. Bill enlisted into the United States Air Force February 11, 1957 and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict and was discharged on February 23, 1960 with the rank of Airman Second Class. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail handler at South Postal Annex in South Boston and retired in 1992 after 29 years of service.

Bill is the dear fiance of Jane Beaton of Charlestown. He is the beloved son of the late William G. and Margaret (Dinn) Dillon. He is the devoted brother of Bernard Dillon and his wife Mary of Chelmford, Robert Dillon and his wife Mary of Wilmington, John Dillon and his loving companion Dorothy Harris of Charlestown the late Margaret Buckley and her surviving husband Boston Firefighter Gerard Buckley of Charlestown. He is the beloved stepfather of Lisa Mitchell, Annemarie Fratalia and Ernest Fratalia. He is the dear friend of Henry Patterson and his wife Claudine. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours for Billy on Wednesday August 6, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. followed by his Funeral Service at 8 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Cremation will take place on Thursday August 7, 2008.
