Obituary

KARL S. RYDER, a Hingham resident for over 50 years, died on Wednesday, July 30th, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 77. Mr. Ryder was born in New Bedford and was raised and educated in Wareham. He graduated from Wareham High School where he excelled as an athlete and scholar. In May of 1989, he was inducted into the Wareham High School Hall of Fame for his athletic ability in all sports. He was a graduate of Brown University in Providence, RI where he was a star on the baseball team. Mr. Ryder served with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Mr. Ryder was an insurance broker for many years, retiring 15 years ago. He was an avid sailor, particularly racing, and was a Past Commodore of the Hingham Yacht Club.

He leaves his wife Prudence L. (Hall) Ryder of Hingham; and was the father of Weston C. Ryder, II of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tamzen R. O'Leary of Boxborough, Matthew L. Ryder of Dennis and Lang B. Ryder of Lauderdale by the Sea, FL. Also survived by his sister, Elsbeth Ames of Cumberland Center, ME and 8 loving grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 5th at 1 PM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham.

Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wareham High School Athletic Dept., 7 Viking Drive, Wareham, MA 02571.

The interment is to be private.
