Adam Spilewski, 85

Adam “Ski” Spilewski, 85, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died on Thursday July 31, 2008 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of Rose E. (Armfield) Spilewski to whom he was wed to on February 18, 1950.
Born August 24, 1922 on the former “Old Glory Farm” off School St. in West Mansfield he was a son of the late William and Martha (Nekraszevich) Spilewski.
Educated in Mansfield schools he proudly served in the United States Marines in the First Marine Division “Old Breed”, prior to the start of WWII he received his training in the British West Indies. He continued serving during WWII as a Sergeant in the Pacific Theater. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart after being wounded May 1945 in Okinawa (KYUKYU Islands). He also participated in other battles at the Guadalcanal and Caroline Islands. He was honorably discharged November 8, 1946.
Mr. Spilewski was a retired carpenter and been employed at the Foxboro Co. for 33 years prior to retiring in 1983.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and as a youth had served as an alter boy. He was a member of the Mansfield VFW and the National Rifle Association. “Ski” enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking as well as spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his beloved wife of 58 years he is survived by his devoted children Ellen C. Spilewski of East Providence, R.I., William F. Spilewski and his wife Sonja of Monponsett, Stephen M. Spilewski of Mansfield and the late Tina A. Damarell. He was the brother of Josephine D.LaFeuilliez of Florida, Helen Bielan of Mansfield and Frank Spilewski of Centerville, also survived by his cherished 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday August 5th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday August 4th from 4-7 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
