William “Bill” O. Devoe, 84, of Derry, NH, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 in the Parkland Medical Center, Derry. Mr. Devoe was born in Lewiston, ME on July 21, 1924, a son of the late Ovide and Louise (Jordan) Devoe. Mr. Devoe was also raised in Lewiston, but had been a resident of Derry for the past 43 years. In his youth he was a great trumpet player and had played in jazz bands. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Derry American Legion. Mr. Devoe was an auto parts specialist employed by Wills Auto, where he was co-owner, and he also had worked for Derry Auto Parts for 25 years. He was also an ordained pastor in the Assembly of God Church in Auburn, ME and Monmouth, ME. He continued with bible studies and performing services, and had performed many weddings. Mr. Devoe also enjoyed coin collecting.
He is survived by his former wife, Virginia Devoe of Derry, two daughters, Judith Devoe of Londonderry, NH, Faith Marie Devoe of Derry, seven sons, Timothy Devoe of Waterville, ME, Stephen Devoe of Grand Isles, ME, Matthew Devoe of Merrimack, NH, John Devoe of Derry, Ronald Devoe of Derry, Mark Devoe of Derry, David Devoe of Manchester, NH and also by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A Visiting hour was held from 12:00 – 1:00pm Monday, August 4, 2008 in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service followed in the funeral home at 1:00pm. The burial with military honors was held in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry.
