Dorothy (Ormonde) Souza Gonsalves, 67, of New Bedford died Saturday March 22, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Antone G. Gonsalves and the late Manuel P. Souza, Jr.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Jose and Mary (Pacheco) Ormonde, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Fall River for 10 years. She and her husband Antone moved to Largo, Florida in 1987 and lived there for 11 years. They then moved back to New Bedford to be near their children. She loved being with them every chance she had.
After the death of her husband Manuel, she was the proprietor of his company, Russmann's Floor Service for several years.
She was a communicant of St. Casimir Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish.She was a former member of the Ladies of the Elks.
Survivors include her husband; 4 daughters, Deborah Mascarenhas and her husband Peter of New Bedford, Donna J. Hickman and her husband Cecil of Cleveland, Ohio, Darlene Samson and her companion of many years Tommy Thomas of Acushnet, and Dara Souza of New Bedford; 5 stepchildren, Kathleen Sobral and her husband Russell, Antone C. Gonsalves and his wife Anna, Kevin Gonsalves and his wife Michelle, Joseph Gonsalves and his friend, Scott Duback. and Michael Gonsalves and his wife Michelle; 14 grandchildren, Jillian Gauvin, Blake McQuade, Keith and Brad Joseph Mascarenhas, Derek Nemeth, Lisa Jean and Craig Sylvia, Jessica and Molly Samson, Monica and Kevin Gonsalves, Tayla Alise Gonsalves, and Rylee and Tyler Gonsalves, all of whom she loved dearly; and 3 great-grandchildren, Madelin Grace Kane-Sylvia, Halle Grace Kane-Sylvia, and Xavier Brown Sylvia-Jackson.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday March 25, 2003 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Casimir Chapel at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday March 24, 2003 from 6-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
