Obituary

Harley R. Mutzfeld of Needham died on Tuesday July 29th at Metro West Medical Center in Natick. He was 87 years old. Born May 15, 1921 to the late Wayland Independence Mutzfeld and Mae Bryant Mutzfeld. He was educated in the public schools of Butler IN and received an undergraduate and masters degree from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. He worked in munitions factories during World War II. Mr. Mutzfeld’s professional career centered around the teaching of science. He held several public school teaching positions, but the bulk of his career was spent as a science educator and editor of science books at D.C. Heath Publishing Co. in Boston. He was a Mason and also a member of Kappa Delta Pi. The beloved husband of 67 years to Alice (Jameson) Mutzfeld, he was the loving father of Karen Kimball and her husband Robert of Needham, Nancy Halberstadt and her late husband Kirk of Rockford MI. and Linda Houle of Marston Mills. Brother of Jeannette Morgan and her husband John of Peterborough, Ontario and the late Thelma Franks. Grandfather of Christine Kimball Day of Medway, Tabitha Kimball Wade of N.Hampton NH, Larry Halberstadt of Grand Rapids MI, Laura Halberstadt Larson of Meza AZ, Steve Halberstadt of Grand Rapids MI, Meredith Houle of Newton and Ken Houle of Arlington VA. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Ave Needham on Saturday Aug. 2nd at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
