Derl P. Reed, Sr. 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 23 2008. He was born in Muhlenberg County, KY on May 8, 1930. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Cye and Eula Mae Reed, and a brother Ray Samuel. Mr. Reed is survived by three children; D. Philip Reed, Jr of Germantown, TN (Mary Anne), Tim W. Reed of Louisville and Cheri Anne Reed Abbott (Dave) of Charlestown, IN, grandchildren, Christopher Reed, Philip Reed, III, David and Erica Abbott, and a great-granddaughter, Heather Reed. He worked at Yellowstone Distilleries for over 25 years and retired as a mash distiller.
Mr. Reed was an avid athlete and for years was an all-star pitcher for many local and regional baseball and softball teams. He had the unique distinction of pitching one of the few recorded no-hitters in men’s slow pitch softball and played softball until into his mid-50's. Also, he was an artist and designed a float for the Derby Parade on behalf of Yellowstone.
Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church 3926 Poplar Level, Road, Louisville KY 40213.
