Robert L. “Bob” Chandler, age 59, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley, MS. Born February 27, 1949 in Water Valley, MS. He was a son of Oscar Leonard “Dock” and Faye Jackson Chandler. Bob was a man who loved to face and overcome challenges. He served two tours of duty with the U. S. Army in Bin-Ho Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He worked for the MSDOT, Yalobusha County as a Deputy Tax Assessor, and an elected official for Yalobusha County serving as Chancery Clerk (1992-1999). After retirement he worked as a trapper for the Southeastern Bowel-Weevil Association. In 2004 he was elected as Election Commissioner then later Commissioner of Beat 3. He was appointed as Chairman of the Election Commission for his term of service. He was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church, the VFW Post 4100 and the Billy’s Creek Water Association. Bob was a man who concerned himself with the details of life. Among those details he served as a volunteer fireman, and a reserve Deputy for the Yalobusha County Sheriff's Department.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 5 until 7 p.m. Services for Bob Chandler will be in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. James West and Bro. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Elam Cemetery in Coffeeville, MS.
Bob is survived by is wife of 37 years, Mary Cubelle Pullen Chandler of Water Valley, MS (they were the first couple to be married in the prayer room of the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS); a daughter, Audrea “Audie” Ashford (Robbie) of Water Valley, MS; “our other daughter,” Kim Wallis (David) of Water Valley, MS; a son, Robert H. “Bobby” Chandler (Michelle) of Norfolk, VA; a sister, Barbara Calder (Charlie) of Coffeeville, MS; a brother, David Chandler (Diane) of Coffeeville, MS; five grandchildren, Krystan Chandler, Torrie Chandler, Makenzie Chandler, Hunter Ashford, and John Paul Ashford.
Along with his parents, Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Sue Preston and brother, Mike Chandler.
