GLOUCESTER: Joseph J. Giglio, Jr., 76, of 1 Nautilus Road, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Mary K. (Morrin) Giglio.
Born in Cambridge on March 19, 1932, Joe was the son of the late Guiseppe J. and Maria (Lopez) Giglio. He was a graduate of the Watertown High School and had attended Emerson College.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 69th Infantry Division Band during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in November of 1955.
Joe had been a professional singer and musician as well as a theatrical agent. His lifelong entrepreneurial spirit brought him to many endeavors which suited his outgoing personality and highlighted his many talents. A licensed contractor, Joe’s innate business and common sense, led him and Mary to own many properties on the North Shore. They also owned and operated the Blue Shutters Inn and the Back Shore Motor Lodge for many years. Joe was known to be a great conversationalist, plus a self-taught artist and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife of thirty years, he is survived by five children, Joseph D. Giglio, Maria “Deidre” Giglio, Mark J. Giglio, Chris P., husband of Lisa Giglio and Adam A. Giglio, four stepsons, Paul, husband of Adrienne Larrabee, Stephen, husband of Dina Larrabee, Joseph, husband of Melody Larrabee, and Richard, husband of Elizabeth Larrabee, as well as thirteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Matthew D. Giglio, a sister, Vincenzina Megna and two brothers, Domenico Giglio and Felix “Phil” Guardina.
Joseph’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning in the St. Anthony By-the-Sea Church, Farrington Avenue, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday evening from 6 – 9 p.m. in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
