LOWELL - Albert Gerard "Gerry" Charette, 76, of Lowell, died Saturday morning in Lowell General Hospital.
Born in Lowell on January 11, 1932, he was a son of the late Victor and Lillian (Landry) Charette. He received his education in the Dracut school system and was a graduate of Dracut High School class of 1950.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Radio Man Second Class in the United States Navy.
Mr. Charette had been employed for many years as an Aide by the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. In his early years he worked as a Hair Dresser as well as a Ballroom Dancing Instructor at the former Silva Dance Studio in Lowell. Following his retirement he worked as a Security Guard at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lowell.
In his free time he enjoyed Ballroom Dancing and was active in AA as a spokesperson, councilor and mentor throughout the Merrimack Valley.
Surviving him are one brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Daphne Charette of Dracut; three nieces Paula DeAngelis, Diane Cockroft and Wendy Bentley and their families;one aunt and many cousins. He was also the brother of the late Victor Charette Jr.
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Tuesday from 9 until 11 AM. His Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM in the funeral home. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
