STEPHEN P. WHELTON 39 OF TEWKSBURY

A lifetime resident of Tewksbury, MA, Stephen passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on July 22, 2008 following a courageous three year battle against colon cancer.

Stephen was married for twelve years to his best friend and high school sweetheart Dianne G. (Sanborn) Whelton. He was the loving and devoted father of Lauren R. Whelton and Sean P. Whelton. Stephen was the beloved son of Roberta E. (Rogers) Whelton and the late Michael J. Whelton Jr. and son-in-law to Dana E. Sanborn and Elda P. Sanborn, all of Tewksbury.

Stephen was a loyal brother and brother-in-law to Michael J. Whelton III of Tewksbury, Lisa M. (Whelton) Francis and Scott M. Francis of Methuen, Daniel M. Whelton and Carole Whelton of Bedford, Kimberly J. Sanborn and Stephen Sullivan of Sutton, Scott D. Sanborn and Deborah A. Sanborn of Monmouth, ME and “brother” and best friend to Bill Lamon and Maryanne Lamon of Fort Myers, FL.

Stephen was an uncle to Joshua and Roberto Whelton of Tewksbury, Brittany and Kayla Francis of Methuen and Nicholas Lamon of Fort Myers, FL. He was also the uncle and godfather of Lindsay Sanborn and Nickolas Sanborn of Monmouth, ME and Hannah E. Lamon of Fort Myers, FL. In addition, Stephen is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers and students.

Stephen was predeceased by his grandparents Michael J. Whelton Sr., Ellen M. Whelton and Beatrice L. Rogers, all of Tewksbury. May they all rejoice in peace together.

Stephen was employed as a Hotel and Lodging Instructor at Greater Lowell Technical High School in Tyngsboro, MA where, after teaching for one year, he was honored in May 2008 as “Teacher of the Year”. Stephen was a passionate and dedicated teacher who put his family and his students first. Prior to teaching, he worked in the hotel and hospitality industry for twenty years at all levels of management. Stephen received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Merrimack College in 1993. He graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School with honors in 1987. He was baptized and confirmed at Saint Williams Parish in Tewksbury, where he also served as an altar boy.

Memories of his gentle eyes, beautiful smile, caring, giving and compassionate ways and wonderful sense of humor will brighten everyone’s days for years to come. His strength, courage and bravery will be the source of inspiration for his wife, children, family and friends for eternity.


Arrangements: A memorial service in celebration of Stephen’s wonderful life will be held at Greater Lowell Technical High School, 250 Pawtucket Blvd, Tyngsboro, MA on July 27, 2008 at 1 PM. A private family burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Tewksbury, MA.
