Obituary

BEVERLY: Captain Donald Lindbergh Bugden, 81, husband of the late Nancy A. (Hamilton) Bugden passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Monday evening, July 21, 2008 surrounded by his three daughters.
He was the son of the late Lizzie A. (Leawood) and George Bugden of Newfoundland, and was born and raised in Lynn and Ipswich, graduating from Ipswich High School Class of ’44.
While working with his father building homes in and around the North Shore, he aspired to be an airline pilot. After serving as a secretary in the Army, he fulfilled his dream and learned to fly at Beverly Airport, where he met his wife Nancy.
Don went on to become a Captain with Eastern Airlines for twenty years, during which time he continued his love of woodworking, building a 32’ sloop in his garage. He retired from flying in 1977, and completely refurbished another 40’ sailboat on which the family cruised to Florida. Upon returning, he created a successful custom millwork business.
A resident of Beverly for nearly 50 years, he will be remembered as a loving husband and father, a master carpenter and a gifted musician, sharing his exceptional talents and his love of music with his family and friends.
He will be deeply missed by his three daughters Cynthia Bugden and Patricia Bugden both of Beverly, and Elizabeth (Bugden) Sears and son-in-law John Sears of Danvers, his grandsons, Samuel Bugden and Jason Sears, his sister, Barbara Ritchie and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bugden, both of Reading, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Kenneth John Bugden, and in January 2005 by his wife Nancy, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Hospice of the North Shore 75 Sylvan St., Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923.
