Alice B. (Monteiro) Leighton, 79, of Dartmouth died July 16, 2008 at home.
She was the wife of the late Leo J. Leighton, Jr.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel R. and Constance (Baptista) Monteiro, she lived in Bridgeport, CT most of her life before moving to Dartmouth in 1985.
Mrs. Leighton was a parishioner of Our Lady of Assumption Church.
She was formerly employed by Aerosol Techniques in Milford, CT for many years. She later was employed at the Stop & Shop on Dartmouth Street in New Bedford.
Mrs. Leighton was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, class of 1947.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Francis Leighton, James Mark Leighton of Marlboro, and Kenneth Paul Leighton and his wife Jacqueline of Smithtown, NY; a daughter, Lenore Jean Leighton-Pollock of Sterling, VA; two brothers, Joseph Monteiro and his wife Margie of Wareham and Adolph Monteiro of New Bedford; four sisters, Evelyn Almeida of South Dartmouth and Mary Ames, Marion Barrows, and Betty Ann Fermino, all of New Bedford; four grandchildren, James, Jr., Tonya, Alicia and Leo; a great-grandson, Justus; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Pauline Cardoza, Robert, Arthur, Edward, and George Monteiro.
Her family will receive guests on Tuesday, July 22nd morning from 8-8:30 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
