ROCHESTER — George "Vo" Souza, 80, of Rochester, MA, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008. He was the son of the late Adelino and Mary Souza and the beloved husband of Loide (Franco) Souza; they were married for 57 years.
He served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War.
He was an avid golfer, was a former member of the New Bedford & Whaling City Country Clubs. He was the 1993 champion of the Reservation Days Tournament and was one of the lucky few to attain a hole-in-one. Vo had a great love for the sport as well as teaching it to others.
During Vo's retirement he enjoyed photography, bird watching and took great pride in building his stone wall to enclose his garden. He was especially devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Ruth Aubertine and her husband, John of New Bedford and Loide Wotton and her husband, Melvin of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Kelly Horan and her husband Peter, Jillian Martin and her fiancé, Kevin Silva, Justin, Jenelle, Jaime and his wife Doreen, and Melissa Wotton; 5 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sydney, Jonathan, Kayleigh and Zachary; 1 sister, Sarah Epley of Colorado; 2 brothers, Walter of Colorado and Adelino Jr., of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance to his wishes he was cremated. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford. Burial is private. www.wilsonchapel.net
