William R. “Red” Delaurier 58, of Summer St in Blackstone, died Tuesday at home. He was born in Woonsocket a son of Leo Delaurier Sr. of Woonsocket, and the late Jeannette (Brin) Delaurier. William entered military service in 1968 and joined the Army. He was assigned to Vietnam in 1969 with the 9th Infantry Division Company A, as well as the 2nd Batallion 60th Infantry.
He served two tours of duty and received numerous awards and commendations, including, the Combat Infantry Badge, two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal for participating in over twenty five flights over hostile territory in support of counter insurgency operations, he also received the Vietnamese Service Medal, the Unit Citation, the National Device Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Billy was an honor to the Army and to all that served.
Besides his father he is survived by his loving wife Cindy (Tillson) Delaurier, a son Shawn M. Delaurier and a daughter Jennifer L. Delaurier both of Blackstone, and one granddaughter, a brother Leo Delaurier Jr. and sisters, Sue Holske and Diane Loiselle all of Englewood FL, and a sister Pat Hawkins of Bellingham. Billy’s great sense of humor allowed him to live life to the fullest. He was greatly loved by his family and friends and will be surely missed.
