Monday we endured the somber loss of a truly wonderful man Michael “Mike” Joseph Melendez went home Monday, July 14, 2008.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2 o’clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 o’clock until the hour of service on Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hollings Cancer Center Bone Morrow Transplant Unit, 171 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29425. Michael said goodbye to his wife of 36 years, Ginger Smith Melendez, his 3 three children, Melissa S., Joseph P. and Allison M. Melendez, and his one grandson, Aden Michael Joseph Melendez, otherwise known as GamPa’s lump of bologna.
Michael, son of the late Luis F. Melendez and Margaret S. Capitan, was born in Charleston on December 26, 1948. He was a man of many interests and jovial spirit who graced all who knew him with a grand sense of humor and great appreciation for a good practical joke.
Most of all, Michael was a devoted family man who dearly loved and gladly sacrificed for his children and wife with absolutely no regret. We thank you, Michael, for all the emence joy and laughter that you brought to so many. With this, we bid you the most love possible and a most regretful adieu. We love you with all of who we are. YOU ROCK, DAD!
