Arthur A. Correia Sr., age 81, lifelong resident of Fall River. Passed away July 14, 2008 at home peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Lorraine (De Costa) Correia for 59 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Joseph A. & Mary (Pimental) Correia. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in Japan & piloted a P-51D Mustang fighter plane. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, & the World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Correia was presented with a citation from Massachusetts Governor Maurice J. Tobin, for his faithful performance of duties in WWII. Prior to retiring, Mr. Correia worked for General Dynamics in the Quincy Shipyard as a Lead Welder. He was a licensed airplane pilot & enjoyed flying Piper Cub planes. He was a past member of the Border City Club, a fantastic auto mechanic, an avid gardener & enjoyed spending time with his children, especially his grandchildren. He & his wife also loved to travel.
Beside his wife of Fall River, he is survived by 6 children. Arthur A Correia Jr. & wife Dorothea of Freetown, Kenneth A Correia & companion Susan Silva of Swansea, Retired Fall River Police Officer David A. Correia & wife Donna of Fall River, Michael A. Correia & companion Connie of Fall River, Steven Correia & wife Ann Marie of Fall River, his loving daughter Lori Lyn Monast & husband Ronald of Fall River. 3 brothers: Eddie A. & Joseph A. Correia both of Fall River, Antone A. Correia of Florida. 4 sisters: Matilda Souza, Theresa Barboza, Madeline Coutroubis, & Irene Orlando all of Fall River. 9 grandchildren: Nicholas Correia, Carolyn Krazyck, Kenneth Correia Jr., Keith De Costa, David, Adam, & Aaron Correia, Michael & Lauren Monast. 2 great grandchildren. Beloved goddaughter: Doreen Moniz & many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Alban A., Louis A., & Ines Correia, Mary A. Souza.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael Church. Interment with Military Honors in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling Hours Friday 5-8 P.M.
