Louis M. Ramos, 74, of New Bedford died Monday July 14, 2008 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Estelle (Monge) Ramos; they had been married for 26 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Manuel J. and Carolina (Santos) Ramos, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Mr. Ramos was formerly employed as a porter for the Steamship Authority for many years until his retirement. He had previously worked in the Merchant Marine.
He was a member of the Merchant Mariners Club. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved being with his family and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Yvonne Brumfield of Texas; two brothers, Raymond Ramos and his wife Lillian and Ceasar Ramos and his wife Betty, all of New Bedford; three sisters, Mary Soares and Dorothy Gomes, both of New Bedford, and Elizabeth "Betty" Burgo of Dartmouth; two grandchildren, Janay and Michael; his sisters-in-law, Louise Ramos, Patricia Ramos, and Delia Ganeto; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph M. Ramos, Manuel Ramos Jr., John M. Ramos, and Kathleen Ramos Lopes.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial in St. John's Cemetery will be private.
