Obituary

Love fulfilled and life begins for a quiet baby boy named Jessie (Dee-Dee) on August 16, 1952. Born to John Dorsey, Jr. and Elizabeth Dorsey. His father preceded him in death.

He confessed Christ and claimed Him his Lord and Savior early in life and joined the Church of Christ on Farris Drive. Later he united with First Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Julius R. Scruggs.

Jessie was educated in the Huntsville City School System. After graduating from S. R. Butler High School, Jessie decided to make a career in the U. S. Marine Corp and also the U. S. Army. He completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He left the Army in 1975 with with an honorable discharge. Later he enrolled in Calhoun Community College studying Machine Tool Technology, not to mention being on the Dean's list and becoming one one of the best Machinists in his field. He worked various jobs in the city as a machinist.

Since childhood "Dee-Dee" was quiet, observant, funny and weird at times, most of all very reserved in his own space until he decided to invite you in for awhile. He was a hard working man who demonstrated old fashined work ethics and desired to instill these principles in his sons. He lived a blessed life and finished his course on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Huntsville Hospital and entered eternal rest.

Mr. Dorsey leaves to cherish his memory a devoted mother, Elizabeth Dorsey whom he fondly called "Addie" of Huntsville, AL; sons, Jesse L. (Robyn) Dorsey of Mufreesboro, TN and Jessie D. Fletcher of Huntsville, AL; five grandsons; brothers, Paul Coffey of Lexington, KY and Eugene Dorsey of Huntsville, AL; sisters, Mary Houston of Huntsville, AL and Ella Dorsey of Madison, AL; one uncle, F. D. Coffey, Decatur, AL. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jessie leaves a special friend "Mattie P. Blackburn" whom he shared countless conversations and his thoughts and outlook on life. He expressed his great love and passion for his "Addie". He always fussed about his big brother Eugene whom he couldn't get enough of being around. Addie and Eugene certainly had "Dee-Dee" spoiled, I must say.

Funeral services for Mr. Dorsey will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from the St. James Primitive Baptist Church at 1093 Fairbanks Street with Elder Billy Jones officiating. Interment will be in Ragland Cemetery in Greenbriar, AL. The remains of Mr. Dorsey will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
