Marilyn S. (Boldt) Caffrey, of Brockton, 78 years, died July 9, 2008, at St. Joseph Manor after a period of failing health. Born and raised in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late Fred J. and Alma (Mattson) Boldt. Marilyn was the wife of the late Richard N. Caffrey and had been a resident of Brockton since 1952. She was the first woman to be appointed to the Brockton Housing Authority and had been Director of Elderly Services for over 20 years. As a testament to her commitment to the elderly, in 1972 in her honor, the elderly high rise on the east side of Brockton was appropriately named Caffrey Towers. In the early 1960’s she was named Mother of the Year and also received the City of Brockton’s Good Neighbor Award. Marilyn was on the Board of Directors for the Brockton Hospital, Old Colony Elderly Services, United Way, Council on Aging, Red Cross, Brockton Visiting Nurse Association, Old Colony YMCA, Southstate Bank for Savings, Old Colony Hospice, The Dorn Davies Senior Center and The Edwina Martin Recovery House. She was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, avid reader and championship bowler.
She is survived by six children Richard E. Caffrey of Bourne, David J. Caffrey and his wife Sandra of Brockton, Diane E. Wallace and her husband Timothy of Brockton, Noreen E. Prime and her husband Douglas of Bridgewater, Nancy A. Braverman and her husband Steven of Medfield and Kara L. Caffrey of Davenport, FL; nine grandchildren, Amanda and David Wallace, Darwin and Joseph Caffrey, Sarah, Robert and Jonathan Prime and Jessica and Scott Braverman; a sister Lois Semrau of Erie, PA, a brother Frederick Boldt of Harlingen, TX, brother in law Jerome Caffrey of Pocasset, and eight nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Phyllis Boldt.
