Emma E. (Williamson) Gonsalves, 78, a lifelong resident of Mansfield died in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday July 8, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Joseph F. Gonsalves, Jr.
Born in Wilmington, MA on December 26, 1929 she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Emma (Corbett) Williamson.
A 1947 graduate of Mansfield High School, Emma and her family owned and operated the Canoe River Campgrounds in Mansfield for the past 35 years. She was a member of the Massachusetts Campground Owners Association.
Mrs. Gonsalves was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved the town of Mansfield and was very supportive of community organizations including several years ago when she and her husband donated a new ambulance to the town.
In addition to her beloved husband of 60 years she is survived by her devoted children Arlene E. Carroll and her husband Robert of Mansfield, Steven J. Gonsalves and his wife Lauren of Mansfield, Linda M. Burmeister and her husband Mark of Mansfield, Christine E. Gonsalves of Mansfield and Faith M. Fitch of Framingham. She was the sister of Shirley Reid of Wilmington, North Carolina and the late Doris Merrifield, Ernest Williamson and Joseph Williamson. Also surviving are her cherished 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday July 12th at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday July 11th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
