Josephine J. Mahoney, 93, died peacefully Saturday evening after a brief illness. She was the daughter of William J. and Emma (Smith) Mahoney.
Born and raised in Woburn, "Bessie" attended Woburn schools and graduated from Woburn Memorial High School in 1932. A woman of deep faith, she was a daily communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Bessie was employed in Woburn at S.B. Goddard Insurance Agency where she enjoyed meeting and working with local customers. With siblings and friends, Bessie vacationed summers at Rye, N.H. and on Cape Cod. Every year she brought three generations of her growing family into her home for a wonderful Christmas celebration. She was truly a happy woman who had a smile and a kind word for everyone.
In addition to her parents, She was predeceased by her sisters Rose M. Mahoney and Grace E. Foley, her brothers, Charles, Francis, The Rev. William, John, and Edward Mahoney.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Charles Mahoney of Missouri, William Mahoney of California, Beth Mahoney of West Falmouth, James Foley of Woburn, Paul Foley of California, Joan O’Brien of Pocasset, Ruth Lombard of Dennis, Peter Foley of New Hampshire, Edward Mahoney of Mashpee, Richard Mahoney of Woburn, Mary Ann Moynihan of New Hampshire, and Nancy Harris of Hingham.. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law Barbara Mahoney, her dear friend Betty Kerrigan, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Tuesday July 8th, from 3:00 - 7:00PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 10:00 am, in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Woburn. Donations in Bessie’s memory may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church.
