Shirley M. Piper, 78, of Derry, NH died Friday July 4, 2008 in the Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center, Manchester, NH. Mrs. Piper was born in Derry on December 7, 1929, a daughter of the late Leander E. and Gertrude E. (Zacharias) Hardy, Jr. She was a lifelong resident of Derry where she was a 1947 graduate of Pinkerton Academy. Mrs. Piper was employed by W.H. Hutton in Derry for 16 years. In addition to cooking, crocheting and gardening, she also enjoyed geneology and cats.
She is survived by her son, Maurice E. Piper, III of Derry, her two sister-in-laws, Marion Caldwell and Marjorie Keith both of Derry, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice E. Piper, Jr. in 2001 and by her brother, Leander E. Hardy, III in 1990.
Calling hours were held on Monday July 7, 2008 from 5 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10:00am in the funeral home. The burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pinkerton Academy Campaign for Excellence, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, NH 03038.
