Obituary

Abel B. Walton, Sr., 93, of Anderson, South Carolina died of natural causes on Friday, July 4, 2008, at the Nursing Center at Anderson Place in Anderson, South Carolina. Mr. Walton lies in state at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals, were the family will receive friends from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, followed by a 10:00 a.m. graveside service at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Martin will officiate.

Mr. Walton was born on October 16, 1914 in Thomasville and was the son of Ralph Walton and Jessie Hollingsworth Walton, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ola Holland Walton; one brother and one sister. He served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, settled in Tifton in 1949, and had a long civil engineering career with the Georgia Department of Transportation and then as Tift County Engineer. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Tifton and The Gideons International.

Mr. Walton is survived by two sons, Sonny Walton of Mauldin, South Carolina, and David Walton of Albany; one daughter and son-in-law, Madeline and Norris Dixon of Anderson, South Carolina; one sister, Frances Maxwell of Conyers; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
