Tampa, Florida; Carmen J. Rivera-Montalvo, a Taunton resident for over 22 years, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Tampa, Florida, after a lengthy illness. She was 66 years of age. She was the wife of the late Edwin Montalvo. Carmen was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Pablo Rivera and Julia Ramos. She was educated in Puerto Rico. Carmen worked for the Housing Authority in Santurce, Puerto Rico as a housekeeper. She was also a volunteer secretary at a grammar school in Puerto Rico. She was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton.
In her spare time Carmen enjoyed dominos, family outings, and music. She was a happy person who always had a smile for everyone.
She leaves 7 children: Edwin C. Montalvo of Boston, Jose Montalvo of Puerto Rico, Carmen B. Montalvo and Luis Cruz of Taunton, Ana I. Montalvo and husband Juan Navarro of Taunton, Wanda Montalvo of Taunton, and Sonia Montalvo and husband Johnny of Kissimee, Fl. She also leaves 3 brothers; Roberto Rivera of Taunton, Martin Rivera of Puerto Rico, Pablo J. Rivera of Providence; also loving sister of Juanita Correa and husband Juan of Taunton, and Ana DeLeon of Lansing, Mi.
She also leaves 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 9:00 am. at the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo Street., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
