Elizabeth A. (Chamberlain) Humble, 98, of Abington, formerly of Whitman, died July 1st in the Colony House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Stanley L. Humble. Born and brought up in East Bridgewater, she was one of ten children born to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Hammond) Chamberlain. Elizabeth was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School class of 1929.In her early years she worked at the Regal Shoe and Commonwealth Shoe in Whitman and also worked at the Stetson Shoe Company in Weymouth. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Senior Citizen’s, Golden Ages and the Stetson Terrance Club in Whitman, where she enjoyed playing bingo and doing crafts.
She is survived by her two granddaughters, Lynda Bartsch of Bridgewater and Karen Thrasher of West Wareham; 2 great grandchildren, Bryan & Micheala Thrasher. She was also the mother of the late Phyllis Hatch and Ruth Ashworth.
Her graveside service will be held Thursday July 3rd at 11:00 AM in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater, MA. Visitation omitted by request of the family. Donations may be made in her name to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 565 Washington St., Whitman, MA 02382.
