Daniel Chapin Merriman of Needham died unexpectedly on Friday June 27th. He was 49 years old. Dan received a BA in Engineering and Economics from Brown University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He also received an MBA from Babson College and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts. Dan was Vice President, and National Business Intelligence Strategy Leader with The Revere Group, an NTT Data Company as well as President and founder of Chapin Consulting Group. Dan had been Vice President and Senior Consultant at Forester Research and Giga Information Group and had previously worked for EDS, Digital Equipment and Hewlett-Packard. Dan was an avid runner having completed several marathons, most recently the Boston marathon benefitting the Dana Farber Cancer Center. He enjoyed travelling, playing golf and tennis, the symphony, reading, hiking with his sons, coaching lacrosse, and relaxing with the Sunday Globe. He was the beloved husband of Blair (Lundgren) Merriman and loving father of Ryan Chapin, USAF, Todd Almy and Andrew Carland Merriman all of Needham. The devoted son of Duncan and Wendy (Hill) Merriman of Tiverton, RI he was the brother of Edward “Ted” Merriman of Little Compton, RI, Katherine Humphrey and Jill Brash both of Portsmouth, RI. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave Needham on Thursday July 3rd at 11:00AM. A gathering of family and friends will take place at Dan and Blair’s home, 68 Meadowbrook Rd in Needham on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-5 PM.
