Obituary

Marjorie J. (Camara) Singleton, 77, of New Bedford died Saturday March 8, 2003 at the Oaks Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Dr. Fred Singleton, and daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gracia) Camara.

Mrs. Singleton was born in New Bedford. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon-Campbell Business School, and had attended Fisher Junior College.

She was formerly employed at St. Mary's Home in New Bedford and St. Vincent's Home in Fall River until her retirement. She later was employed as an office clerk at All-Security on Kempton Street in New Bedford.

Mrs. Singleton was a very active member of the Spouters of New Bedford and original Gateway Players of Wareham. She liked to paint and draw, and especially loved spending time with her cat, Mickey.

Survivors include a daughter, Leslie Singleton-Moniz, and her husband Joseph Moniz, of Acushnet; 3 sons, Robert J. Singleton and David P. Singleton, both of New Bedford, and Fred A. Singleton of Nantucket; 2 brothers, Raymond Camara, and his wife Beverly, of Mattapoisett, and Joseph Camara, and his wife Arlene, of New Bedford; a sister, Catherine Correia of South Dartmouth; a niece Julienne Camara of Texas; and 5 nephews.She was the sister of the late Edmund Camara and Mary Camara Grady.

In accordance with her wishes, Funeral Services will be private and visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Animal Rescue League, 126 MacArthur Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02740.
