Obituary

LOWELL—John J. Hogan, 78 years old, died Sunday morning at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Hogan) Hogan, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage in April of this year.

He was born in Lowell, on June 25, 1930, a son of the late John J. and Celia (Casey) Hogan. He was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1948, and Boston University.

Mr. Hogan served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge he began a career in banking at the Washington Savings Bank, retiring as the Bank President in June of 1997.

He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and held membership in the Men’s Guild of the parish. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Bankers Association, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Men’s Guild of the former St. John’s Hospital, and the Lowell Development and Financial Corporation.

Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law: James B. and Laurie (Picanso) Hogan, of Pelham, NH; three granddaughters: Victoria, Alexandria and Elizabeth Hogan, all of Pelham, NH; a sister and brother-in-law: Irene and Donald Emmons of Hopewell Junction, NY; a nephew: Donald Emmons, of Austin, TX; a niece: Kathleen, and her husband Russ Macrini, of Cold Spring, NY.

He was the uncle of the late William Emmons.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, July 2nd at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered on Thursday at 11 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
