Obituary

Andrew F. Lentine, 94 of Medford, died Saturday in Lawrence Memorial Hospital Medford, following a brief illness. Husband of the late Lillian O. (DeBenedictis) Lentine.
Born in Winchester, son of the late Salvatore and Antonia (Signorella) Lentine. A lifelong Medford resident, he is graduate of Winchester High School class of 1934. He continued his education at Boston College and graduated in 1939. Mr. Lentine then entered the Navy and served during WWII. Upon his return he received a Masters in Education from Tufts University.
He was a Teacher at the former Roberts Jr. High School in Medford. In addition he taught at Malden Catholic High School where he will be remembered as the coach of both the football and basketball teams. He also coached football on the college level.
Sports were an integral part of his life. Selected as an all scholastic football player in 1933 by the Boston Globe, he also played on the Varsity team of Boston College from 1935-1938.
Mr. Lentine was inducted into both the Winchester Sports Hall of Fame and Malden Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. In earlier years he was the owner of Lentine’s Submarine Sandwich Shop in Arlington.
He leaves 2 daughters, Michele Gerety and her husband Paul of Medford, Patricia Callahan and her husband James of Centerville. Loving grandfather of Kristen Baratta, Nicole Stewart, Todd Gerety, Jill Beagan, Jason Callahan and great grandfather of Andrew, Marie Elena and Christopher Gerety, Ashley and Ryan Stewart, Fiona Baratta, Lillian and Michele Beagan and Connor Callahan. Dear brother of Paul Lentine of Woburn, Joseph Lentine of Billerica, Frank Lentine of Danvers and the late Anthony and Mario Lentine, Betty Sgroi, and Josephine Serapina. Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Wednesday at 8 am. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 9 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
