GLOUCESTER: Terry Lee Carpenter, 54, of 60 Laurel Street, died Tuesday evening, June 24, 2008 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Mondello) Carpenter. They had shared 35 years of marriage.
Born in Thomasville, North Carolina on February 18, 1954, he was the son of Olive Virginia (Muse) Carpenter and the late Richard Carpenter. His family moved to Gloucester when he was nine years old. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1972.
Terry was a foreman at the former Empire Fish Company for twenty years. A jack-of-all-trades, he loved helping his family and friends. He loved working in the garden and keeping his yard perfectly landscaped. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife from his back yard. His favorite pastime was watching the Boston sports teams with his family. He also enjoyed watching his granddaughter dance and grandsons play sports. He was a very loving, caring person, who always put others before himself. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Maria (Groppo) Carpenter, a daughter and son-in-law, Jill Carpenter and Jerry Cusumano, his beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Kyle and Alex Cusumano, Mikaela and Ryan Carpenter, two sisters, Ruth Giagoudakis, Maria and her husband, David Doyle, two brothers, Walter and his wife, Dawn Carpenter, Richard and his wife Maria Carpenter, a sister-in-law, Judy and her husband William “Butch” Stephens, three brothers-in-law, Paul and his wife, Claire Mondello, David and his wife, Phyllis Mondello, Greg and his wife Jean Mondello. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends on Cape Ann and in North Carolina. He was also predeceased by his brother, Ronnie Carpenter and his mother-in-law, Marjorie E. Mondello.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at his home on Saturday afternoon from 1 – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
