Obituary

Melvin A. Goldberg, a lifelong Everett resident, entered into rest suddenly on June 24, 2008 at the Beverly Hospital. He was 81 years old.

Born in Cambridge, the son of the late Manuel & Sara (Bick) Goldberg, Melvin was raised & educated in Everett. He graduated from Everett High School & went on to earn his degree in accounting from Northeastern University in Boston. Melvin enlisted in the United States Army on March 1, 1945 at Ft. Banks, MA & served with the BTRY B 743rd AAA Battalion. He served in the South Pacific & Philippines & was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Philippines Independence Ribbon, & the World War II Victory Medal. Melvin was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC on November 26, 1946 at Ft. Dix, N.J. Upon returning from military service, he began his career as a certified public accountant. Melvin will be remembered as an avid fisherman.

Melvin is survived by 2 daughters, Janet Quicksall & her husband Glen of PA & Nancy Leeds of N.J.; 2 granddaughters, Michelle & Justine; 2 brothers, David Goldberg & his wife Adele of Peabody & Harold Goldberg & his wife Jean of Peabody; & several nieces & nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 11:30 AM in the New Tifereth Israel of Everett Cemetery, 232 Fuller St. EVERETT. Rabbi David Klatzker of Temple Ner Tamid of Peabody will officiate. Memorial observance will be held at the home of David & Adele Goldberg, Peabody through Friday at sundown.
