Fred A. Barra, 77 of Woburn, died Monday at the Wingate Nursing Home in Reading. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Gaetano and the late Angela (Loscocco) Barra.
Mr. Barra grew up in Dorchester, he attended Boston schools and was a graduate of Wentworth Institute. Mr. Barra was a US. Navy veteran of WWII serving on the USS Cebu. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy he went to work for Raytheon where he worked until he retired from a management position. He lived most of his life in Woburn and those who knew him admired his friendliness and courteous demeanor. He was a member of the Woburn Elks.
.In addition to his beloved wife, Elinor L. (Barrett) Barra, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Cogan of Woburn, a son Frederick Barra and his wife Alice of Buxton, ME., two loving grandchildren, Amy Cogan and Robert Cogan Jr., and one brother Gaetano Barra of Canton and three sisters Clara Travia of Reading, Lucy Desmond of Holiday, FL., and Marie Alaimo of Sharon.
Funeral from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Thursday at 9AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated at St. Anthony Church, 851 Main St. Woburn at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
