AUBURN-George H. Rand, 80, of 31 Colonial Road, died Sunday, March 9th in UMass-Memorial Healthcare, University Campus. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Virginia E. (Baxter) Rand, a son William D. Rand of Jefferson, 5 daughters, Barbara A. Rand, Janet E. Iocco and Kerry M. Markvenas all of Auburn, Patricia M. Armitage of Hubbardston and Ginny Sanborn-Conroy of Worcester, a sister Barbara L. Porter of Scottsdale, AZ, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, many nephews and nieces. A brother Walter Rand of Scottsdale, AZ died in 1963,
He was born in Hartford, CT the son of Neal H. and Jessie (Smith) Rand. Mr. Rand was a World War 2 Marine Corps veteran serving in the Asian-Pacific Theater, and also fought in the Korean War. He had last worked as a machinist for Noremac Manufacturing Company for 20 years until his retirement. Previously he had worked for Scavone Construction.
The funeral will be Wednesday, March 12th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street, Auburn. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 11th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
